PM Modi: On the fringes of the G7 conference in Italy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian colleague Giorgia Meloni took a selfie. The prime minister traveled to Apulia, in southern Italy, on Friday in order to attend the G7 Summit’s Outreach session.

Bilateral Discussions on Key Global Issues

He had bilateral discussions with world leaders on a variety of topics while he was there. During their bilateral discussions, the prime minister and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni talked about defense and security cooperation and expressed enthusiasm for further strengthening defense industry partnership. At Prime Minister Meloni’s invitation, Modi traveled to Italy. After taking office as prime minister for a third term earlier this month, this was his first travel abroad.

“​The two sides discussed bilateral defence and security cooperation and hoped for further enhancing the defence industrial collaboration,” said a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, as quoted by PTI. The Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and training ship ITS Vespucci are scheduled to visit India later this year, and both leaders expressed their excitement about the visit.

Renovation of Yashwant Ghadge Memorial in Italy

PM Modi announced that New Delhi will be renovating the Yashwant Ghadge Memorial in Montone, Italy, and he praised the Italian government for acknowledging the Indian Army’s role in the Italian Campaign during World War II. They discussed the development of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership and expressed pleasure with the regular higher political dialogue.

Modi was congratulated by the prime minister of Italy for winning a third term in office. He expressed his gratitude to Meloni for inviting him to the G7 Outreach Summit and praised her for the summit’s successful conclusion. The US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan make up the G7. Italy is hosting the summit in its position as the G7’s (Group of Seven) current president.
