Menstrual pain leave: The Supreme Court, Friday, disposed a PIL which sought menstrual pain leave for female students and working women across the country. The SC suggested that the petitioner should approach women and child ministry to file a representation for the policy dimension.

The Supreme Court has refused to entertain a plea, seeking official menstrual pain leave for female students and working women. Disposing the please, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said, ““ The plea has been field under Article 32, and seeks leave for menstrual pain for stunt and women employees. Having regard to the policy dimension in the case, the petitioner may approach the women and child ministry to file a representation. Petition is disposed of.”

Companies such as Zomato, Swiggy provide paid menstrual pain leave
The plea stated that menstrual pain often goes unnoticed by society, the government and he stakeholders, adding that some organisations and state governments have taken the matter into cognisance.
Companies such as Ivipanan, Zomato, Byju’s, Swiggy, Mathrubhumi, Magzter, Industry, ARC, FlyMyBiz, and Gozoop, paid period leaves, the petitioner said.
Urging the apex court to push state governments to bring this into practice, the petitioner called for implementation of Section 14 of the Maternity Benefit Act, which involves the appointment of inspectors to enforce the Act’s provisions.
The petitioner further called for Supreme Court’s intervention as it mentioned that various countries across the world are already availing female students and working women in the same form.
