Delhi Airport Chaos: In response to concerns of congestion and disorder at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) presided over a high-level meeting on Thursday, sources informed the sources. Immigration and infrastructure are likely to be discussed at the conference, according to sources.

High-level discussion on airport congestion
At the Ministry of Home Affairs, a high-level discussion on airport congestion was presided over by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla. At 11 am, the meeting got underway.
Those who attended the meeting are, the Secretary for Civil Aviation, the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Chairman of the Airport Authority of India (AAI), the Senior Officers of the Immigration Department, the Officers of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and other MHA Officers.
Passengers have been venting about the chaotic scenes at the Delhi airport on Twitter for the past few days, and many have posted images of the lengthy lines at security checks. Before the flight’s final takeoff, passengers grumbled about having to wait two to three hours at the clearing area.
However, actions have been taken to relieve the congestion at T3 following a surprise visit to the airport by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. An all-encompassing five-point plan was implemented, including the entrance, check-in area, security checkpoint, and immigration. As a solution to the congestion, it was also suggested to reduce and move peak hour flights (5 am to 9 am) from terminal T3 to terminals T2 and T1.
Sources claim that today’s meeting could decide whether or not to deploy an additional 1,200 CISF members to the Delhi airport. Currently, more than 5,000 CISF troops are stationed at the IGI airport to assist travellers with security check-ins, anti-terrorism efforts, and other fundamental responsibilities. The organisation in charge of airport security is the CISF.

Deploy adequate manpower
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), major airports in the nation are experiencing congestion as a result of airlines leaving check-in counters unattended.
In order to ensure decongestion and a smooth flow of passengers at airports, airlines are encouraged to deploy sufficient people at all check-in/baggage drop stations well in advance, according to the MoCA’s.
The MoCA’s letter noted, “It has come to the notice of the MoCA that the airline check-in counters at certain airports are found unmanned or inadequately manned during the early morning hours leading to congestion at the airports, thereby causing inconvenience to passengers.”
It stated that airlines are asked to post current information about the wait times at individual airport entry gates on their social media channels.
Scindia additionally recommended that real-time updates on the wait time be shared on social media. All airlines have been instructed to maintain a fully staffed check-in desk, especially during busy times.
In addition to requiring that scheduled airlines post real-time information on wait times at individual airport entrance gates on their social media feeds, the civil aviation ministry has ordered airlines to assign enough staff to all check-in and baggage drop counters.
