On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, the Ministry of Home Affairs bestowed honors upon 954 dedicated police personnel through prestigious medals. These awards commend the unwavering efforts of uniformed individuals nationwide. Notably, Uttar Pradesh stands out with the highest number of recipients of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, while the Border Security Force notably dominates the same category for the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). The valiant efforts of Jammu and Kashmir police personnel have earned them a remarkable total of 55 medals for their gallant actions.

Breaking down the medal distribution, a single recipient received the esteemed President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG), whereas 229 deserving individuals were granted the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG). Furthermore, 82 outstanding officers were honored with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM), and a significant number of 642 were duly recognized with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).
In the domain of police gallantry awards, commendable valor was acknowledged from various regions and contexts. Among these recipients, 125 hailed from areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, 71 from Jammu & Kashmir, and 11 from the North East region. Notably, 28 of the awardees belonged to the CRPF, 33 hailed from Maharashtra, 55 represented the J&K Police, 24 were from Chhattisgarh, 22 from Telangana, and 18 from Andhra Pradesh. The remaining recipients hailed from different States/Union Territories (UTs) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
The President’s Police Medal for Gallantry and the Police Medal for Gallantry specifically commend acts of conspicuous bravery, such as life-saving endeavors, crime prevention, and the apprehension of criminals. Meanwhile, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service acknowledges individuals with distinguished records in their police service. The Police Medal for Meritorious Service aptly recognizes valuable contributions marked by dedication and resourcefulness.
This distribution of awards pays tribute to those who have displayed exemplary commitment and courage in maintaining law and order, safeguarding lives, and upholding the principles of justice and security in the nation.
