Miscreants throw meat in Gurudwara premises in UP; case registered: Police

Police have lodged a case after reports that meat was allegedly thrown onto the grounds of a gurudwara in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Monday, according to a senior official. According to SSP Siddharth Anirudh Pankaj, the incident happened on Sunday night in Kohdapeer, Bareilly.

The case was registered on the complaint of gurdwara head, Harwant Pal Singh Bedi. A special operation had been launched to nab the miscreants, said the SSP.

Some mischievous people tried to spoil the atmosphere of the city on Sunday night as Muslims celebrated the Eid-ul-Adha, the senior cop said.

The situation was, however, under control, said police.

A large number of people gathered on the spot as soon as the meat was found. On checking CCTV footage, cops found meat pieces falling into the premises. However, they were unable to see those who threw it, said police.

Police said they are working to identify those in charge of it. Police and paramilitary personnel in large numbers are policing the city’s sensitive areas. In the meantime, Sikh store owners closed their shutters on Monday in protest of the incident.
