Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has recovered from coronavirus, has pledged to donate his plasma. On Sunday, Mr. Chouhan said that he would donate his blood plasma for treatment of Covid-19 pateints.
The NP CM was hospitalised on July 25 after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. After 11 days of treatement, he tested negative on August 5 and was discharged from the hospital.
“I was tested positive for COVID-19 earlier and I am perfectly healthy now after treatment. Antibodies to fight coronavirus must have been developed in my body and so I will soon donate plasma for therapy,” an official release quoted the chief minister as saying while reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the state via video conferencing.
Chouhan was discharged from Chirayu Medical College and Hospital without a prior testing and has been under home quarantine sine then.
At a time when no definite cure of the novel coronavirus has found, convalescent plasma therapy has turned out to be the most successful method to treat critically ill patients. The therapy involves taking antibodies from the blood of a person who has recovered from the disease after 14 days. The antibodies are then used to transfuse into an active coronavirus patient with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection to kick start their immune system.
Meanwhile, 868 new covid cases and 19 deaths were recorded in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. With the new positive cases, the coronavirus tally has now reached 39,025 case while the death toll has reached 996 in the state.
