On free pilgrimage under MP govt scheme, Thirty-two senior citizens from Madhya Pradesh left here for Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday for an open-air pilgrimage. According to government officials, this is the first time that beneficiaries of MP Mukhyamantri Tirth-Darshan Yojana will travel by air.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan arrived at Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport in the morning to welcome 32 senior citizens, including 24 men and 8 women. The scheme was launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration in 2012 and senior citizens were sent on the pilgrimage for free in special trains.
7.82 lakh senior citizens availed the benefits
Madhya Pradesh is the first state to offer air travel for senior citizens for pilgrimage, government officials said. So far, 7.82 lakh senior citizens have availed the benefits of the pilgrimage scheme, they said. In the first phase of the air travel arrangement, the senior MPs will travel in different batches from various airports in the state till July this year, officials said.
