New Delhi: Tizit police has registered a suo moto against 21st Para (SF) in connection with the gunning down of 13 villagers of Oting, Nagaland that took place on Saturday.
The case has been registered for charged of murder, attempt to murder and carrying out an act in a group with a common intention.
Attending the funeral of civilians killed in the firing at Oting in Mon district, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio demanded the removal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act or AFSPA.
Neiphiu Rio said the Act was enforced to tackle insurgency, then why is it not being removed now.
Meanwhile, the FIR states that the commandos opened fire at the Bolero pickup van carrying the villagers work to their homes “without any provocation resulting in the killing of many Oting villagers and seriously injured many.”
Opposition MPs raised the Nagaland firing incident, in which 14 civilians were killed during an anti-insurgency operation by security forces, in Rajya Sabha on Monday.
“Sir, the matter is very serious and horrendous. We demand a statement by the Minister of Home Affairs on it in the House today only. It is a serious matter, I request you to direct the minister to make a statement,” Kharge said, addressing the Chair.
Leader of the House Piyush Goyal also said the matter is serious. “The government is seized of the matter. The government will make a detailed statement on this issue,” he said.
