Every year on January 12th, India celebrates National Youth Day. This is observed to honour the ideals and thoughts of Swamiji Vivekananda who had tremendous faith in youth.
He was a philosopher and a social reformer who dedicated his life to end illiteracy and child marriage. He also worked towards spreading education among women and the people belonging to lower castes.
To honor his contributions to the country, the Indian government in 1984 announced that 12 January will be observed as National Youth Day.
