Covid-19: A statewide mock drill to assess hospital preparation will be undertaken starting on Monday, with both public and private hospitals likely to participate. This is in response to the increased number of Covid-19 cases. The mock exercise is essential to ensuring that Covid-19 patients receive prompt and efficient medical care. According to Health Ministry officials, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya would visit AIIMS, Jhajjar on Monday to supervise the mock drill. Mandaviya had ordered state health ministers to visit hospitals and observe the mock drills during a review meeting on April 7. Additionally, he had instructed them to check their readiness on April 8 and 9 with district administrations and health officials.

Mandaviya had emphasised the need to identify emergency hotspots by monitoring trends of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases, ramping up testing and vaccination, and ensuring that hospital infrastructure is ready during the meeting with state health ministers, principal chief secretaries, and additional chief secretaries held virtually. He had placed a strong emphasis on raising awareness about adopting Covid-appropriate behaviours in addition to improving genome sequencing and accelerating whole genome sequencing of positive samples.
Omicron and its sub-lineages are still the most common variants
The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently closely monitoring a variant of interest (VOI), XBB.1.5, and six other variants are under monitoring (BQ.1, BA.2.75, CH.1.1, XBB, XBF, and XBB.1.16), states and union territories were informed during the meeting, according to a health ministry statement. While Omicron and its sub-lineages are still the most common variants, it was made clear that most of the assigned variants have little to no meaningful differences in terms of disease severity, transmissibility, or immune evasion. In March, there were 35.8% more cases of XBB.1.16 than there were in February, which was 21.6%. The statement claimed that there was no evidence of a rise in hospitalisation or mortality.

3726 recoveries in the previous 24 hours
As of Sunday, there were 32,814 active cases overall, with a daily positive rate of 3.39 percent, according to the Health Ministry’s press statement. The bulletin reported that there had been 3,726 recoveries in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 4,41,92,837. It also said that the overall recovery rate was currently at 98.74%. As of Sunday, 220.66 crore vaccine doses have been distributed as part of the nationwide vaccination push, 659 of which were given in the previous day.
Attorneys may employ hybrid mode-DY Chandrachud
Following the increase of Covid-19 instances, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stated earlier this week that attorneys are free to virtually present in court. Newspaper reports, according to CJI Chandrachud, indicate that Covid cases are on the rise. If a lawyer wishes to appear remotely before the court, they can do so, and hybrid mode is also active. “We saw news articles about an increase in Covid instances. Attorneys may employ hybrid mode. We will listen to you if you decide to appear online, CJI declared. Beginning on April 4, 2022, the Supreme Court resumed adjudicating matters through actual hearings.
