Navratri 2022: The nation is currently celebrating Navratri, a nine-day celebration, with great fanfare. During this season, Maa Durga’s followers worship her nine incarnations, also referred to as Navdurgas. A different Goddess avatar is honoured each day. Goddess Shakti followers honour Maa Katyayani on the sixth day of Navratri. The sixth day falls on Saturday, October 1 this year. According to Hindu legend, Maa Katyayani, who defeated the demonic Mahishasura, was created when Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva merged their forces. She is also known as the Warrior Goddess in this form.
Navratri 2022: Day 6 Maa Katyayani Legend
One of the most ferocious manifestations of Goddess Durga is Maa Katyayani. Mahishasurmardini is a name given to the Goddess since she killed the demon king Mahishasura. She is portrayed as riding a lion and holding an abhaya and varada mudra in each of her four hands, while holding a sword and lotus flower in her left hand. Maa Katyayani is also known as the vanquisher of evil.

According to the Vamana Purana, the gods were enraged at the demon Mahishasura and his wrongdoings, so they joined forces to create Maa Katyayani out of their combined energy. They made their rage visible as energy beams, which solidified in Katyayana Rishi’s hermitage and were subsequently given suitable shape by him. Because of this, this manifestation of Maa Durga is sometimes referred to as Katyayani or Katyayana’s daughter.
It is stated in mythological writings that Rishi Katyayana was a fervent follower of Goddess Shakti. Goddess Durga approved his request to father Maa Durga after being moved by his devotion and adoration. She was born as his child, grew up to be a powerful, attractive, and expert fighter, and she murdered Mahishasura.
Navratri 2022: Day 6 Maa Katyayani Signficance
The significance of Navratri Day 6 is that Maa Katyayani rules over the planet Brihaspati. She stands for wisdom and harmony. According to legend, the blessings of Goddess Katyayani can wash away the sins of her devotees, banish evil spirits, and eliminate obstacles. Additionally, unmarried girls observe a fast in order to find the husband of their choosing on the day Maa Katyayani is honoured during Navratri.
Navratri 2022: Day 6 Maa Katyayani Pooja Vidhi
Devotees should get up early, take a bath, and put on new clothes on the sixth day of Navratri. Fresh flowers should be presented before Maa Katyayani’s idol along with a clean puja area. In addition, while reciting mantras and praying, worshipers should serve the Goddess honey and prasad as bhog and hold lotus flowers in their hands.
Navratri 2022: Day 6 Maa Katyayani Shubh Muhurat
This year, Saturday, October 1 marks the sixth day of Navratri. The Brahma Muhurta on this day, starts at 04:37 and concludes at 05:25. The Vijaya Muhurta will go from 02:09 pm to 02:57 pm, and the Abhijit Muhurat will run from 11:47 am to 12:34 pm. On October 2, the Ravi Yoga will also be practised from 06:14 to 03:11 am.

On the sixth day of Navratri, the predominant colour is grey. It stands for balanced emotions and keeps the wearer grounded. Wearing this colour on this day will help devotees achieve all of these goals.
