Navratri 2022: This year, Maha Ashtami, often referred to as Ashtami and Durgashtami, falls on Monday, October 3. One of the most significant days amid the blessed holidays of Navratri and Durga Puja, it is. They have Maa Durga and her nine avatars as their only focus (Navdurgas).

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Shailputri was incredibly attractive and endowed with a fair complexion when she was sixteen years old. She consequently earned the name “Goddess Mahagauri” due to her bright complexion. She rides a bull, just like Maa Shailputri, earning her the name Vrisharudha.
She has four hands; the right hand holds a Trishul while the left hand maintains the Abhaya Mudra. The left hand holds the Damaru while the right hand maintains the Varada Mudra. Because of her fair appearance, the Goddess is frequently equated to a conch, the moon, and the white flower of Kunda. She also goes by the name Shwetambardhara since she consistently dresses in white. She stands for innocence, calm, and peace.
Navratri 2022: Day 8 Maa Mahagauri Significance
Maha Ashtami, the third day of Durga Puja and the eighth day of Navratri, commemorates Maa Durga’s victory over the buffalo monster Mahishasura. On this day, people worship Maa Mahagauri, who is renowned for giving money and a lavish lifestyle upon her worshippers while also curing all of their woes. During Ashtami, one can get rid of all their issues and sins by praying to Maa Durga. Ashtami fast is significant because it brings luck and prosperity.
During Ashtami, Astra Puja is also practised in several regions of India. Many devotees believe that praying to their tools on this day is fortunate. Furthermore, Maa Durga’s weapons are revered as representations of female might.
Navratri 2022: Day 8 Maa Mahagauri Shubh Muhurat
This year, Maha Ashtami will be observed on October 3. The Ashtami Tithi, according to Drik Panchang, will start at 06:47 pm on October 2 and terminate at 04:37 pm on October 3. The Sandhi Puja will take place from 04:13 to 05:01 PM. The Abhijit Muhurat is from 11:46 to 12:34 whereas the Brahma Muhurta is from 04:38 to 05:26.
On Monday, October 3, some devotees will also observe Saraswati Pradhan Puja, the second day of Saraswati Puja. The Puja Muhurat runs from 07:31 to 01:09 in the morning.
Navratri 2022: Day 8 Maa Mahagauri Pooja Vidhi
On Ashtami, devotees should perform Mahasnan in the morning to purify oneself and put on new clothing. Install nine little pots, call upon Maa Durga’s nine Shaktis, and offer Maha Ashtami Puja to them. Nine young women who have never been married are also welcomed into homes to do Kanjak or Kanya/Kumari Puja because they are seen as divine representations of Maa Durga. These girls are lined up, and followers fasten a sacred dhaaga to their wrists. After washing their feet and applying tilak on their foreheads, the devotees present the girls with specially prepared prasad that includes puri, halva, and black grammes. Last but not least, Sandhi Puja is also practised on this day.
Navratri 2022: Day 8 Maa Mahagauri Color
On Maha Ashtami, or Day 8 of Navratri, peacock green is the colour of the day. On this day, devotees may dress in this colour when they worship the goddess Mahagauri. The colour stands for individuality, freshness, compassion, and distinctiveness.
