Following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in India, several developments have gained attention. Important discussions have been triggered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration on Tuesday night confirming the NDA’s victory in creating the next administration. With the Congress winning 99 seats and the BJP winning 240, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Modi, is set to meet on Wednesday, most likely at 11:30 a.m. in Delhi.
NDA Leaders’ Conclave
In line with this, representatives of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are expected to gather at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, the home of Prime Minister Modi, at around 3:30 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to outline the coalition’s future strategy. Notable attendees are expected to include former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
What to Expect
The results of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 have raised expectations for how Indian politics would develop in the future. Everyone is wondering if the INDIA bloc’s outstanding performance would act as a trigger for the bloc to stay together and plan for their future endeavours, given that they outperformed expectations. On the other hand, it is expected that the NDA would concentrate on assessing their upcoming policies and determining a path that is consistent with their vision for growth and governance.
BJP’s Third Successive Government
While the BJP secured a commendable 240 seats, a notable decline from its 2019 tally of 303, the Congress displayed a robust resurgence, capturing 99 seats. The unexpected strength of the INDIA bloc, surpassing the 230-mark, has injected an element of unpredictability into the political landscape.
Coalition Dynamics and Majority Shortfall
Despite clinching a third term, the BJP finds itself in uncharted territory, falling short of the majority mark by 32 seats. This necessitates reliance on coalition partners, particularly on the support of JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu.
PM Modi’s Assertion and Opposition’s Response
In addition to thanking the people for their mandate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that the win demonstrated the people’s belief in the BJP-led NDA and the ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ ideas. On the other hand, the Congress and other opposition leaders have emphasised the importance of the Wednesday meeting of the INDIA bloc, which is intended to help them plan for the future.
