Nepal yet to remove encroachments on Uttarakhand border despite several reminders

Even as India has issued several reminders, the Nepalese security agencies have not removed “encroachment” from the no man’s land on the Uttarakhand-Nepal border.

“We had talks with our counterparts in Nepal and requested the concerned authorities to immediately remove the encroachment, however, no action has been taken yet,” Himanshu Kafaltia, SDM, Tanakpur of the border district of Champawat told IANS on Thursday, adding, “we hope that things will change in a day or two in the ‘no man’s land’.”

Notably, in a recent incident, many Nepalese citizens, carrying Indian Aadhaar cards tried to enter India via the open border.

In addition, the SDM of the border district said that the temporary construction at the ‘no man’s land’ from Nepal’s side was also recorded. Follwing which, the SDM and team of Indian Police officials also went to the border area on Tuesday. To discuss the mater, the officials then held a meeting with the concerned Nepalese authorities.

“We have given them a day’s time to remove the encroachment. But now we have been informed that the concerned agency has sent a report to their higher ups. If they do not remove the encroachment by Friday we will be holding a meeting on March 20,” the SDM Himanshu Kafaltia informed on phone.

In the recent times, there have been many incidents of border disputes between India and Nepal, especially along the sensitive Uttarakhand-Nepal border.

Last year, Nepal had attracted flak after it released a new map including some parts of Indian territory in border area.
