New Delhi: The 28-year-old live-in partner of a man who was detained for allegedly killing her, chopping her body into 35 pieces, and dispersing them at various locations in and around the nation’s capital was the victim of a six-month-old blind murder case, which Delhi Police had solved.
The father of the victim filed a complaint, which led to the arrest of the suspect, Aftab Amin Poonawalla (28), a Mumbai resident, on Saturday. He was held in police custody for five days, according to the police on Monday.

The couple had shifted to Delhi from Mumbai
Shraddha Walker, a 27-year-old Mumbai resident who was the victim, met the accused while working at a contact centre there. “The two got together via a dating app in Mumbai. They were in a live-in relationship for three years and had shifted to Delhi. Soon after the two shifted to Delhi, Shraddha started pressurizing the man to marry her,” Additional DCP-I South Delhi Ankit Chauhan said.
“The two quarrelled frequently and it used to get out of control. In this particular instance that occurred on May 18, the man lost his temper and strangled her,” said Chouhan. Continuing further, he said “The accused told us that he chopped her into pieces and disposed of her parts in nearby areas in the jungle area of Chhatarpur Enclave. He has been arrested and investigation is going on.”
Aftab stored the dead body in fridge
The accused is suspected of chopping the victim’s body into 35 pieces and storing them inside a refrigerator. After that, sources said, he began dumping the body parts across Delhi and the surrounding area during the night for the following 18 days.
According to further sources, Aftab used to sleep each day in the same room where he had sliced up Shraddha’s body after murdering her. After storing it in the refrigerator, he used to see the face. After getting rid of the corpse pieces, Aftab cleaned the refrigerator.
Aftab was inspired from ‘Dexter’ show
Before meeting Shraddha, sources said Aftab had relationships with other ladies. He also viewed a lot of crime films and web series before committing the crime, particularly the American crime thriller Dexter.
Vikash Madan Walker, the victim’s father and a native of Palghar, Maharashtra, went to Mumbai police in November and reported his daughter missing. The victim’s last known location was discovered in Delhi during the first inquiry, and the case was handed over to Delhi police as a result. Assuming Aftab was responsible for his daughter’s absence, the victim’s father informed the police of his daughter’s contact with Aftab.
Aaftab and Shraddha had arrived in Delhi and had begun residing in a rented flat in the Chhatter Pur Pahadi neighbourhood, it was discovered during the inquiry. Aftab was arrested by the police when they tracked him down during the inquiry.
