National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested absconding terrorist Harpreet Singh from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The NI said that the self-styled chief of Pakistan-based International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) is an associate of Harpreet and Lakhbir Singh Rode. He was one of the conspirators in the Ludhiana Court Building Blast in the year 2021. One was killed and 6 people were injured in this blast.
According to the NIA, on the instructions of Rode, Harpreet coordinated the delivery of specially made IEDs, which were sent from Pakistan to his associates in India. It was used in the Ludhiana Court Complex blast. The arrested accused Harpreet Singh was also involved and wanted in several cases including smuggling of explosives, arms and narcotics.
Earlier, the NIA had declared a reward of Rs 10 lakh on wanted terrorist Harpreet Singh alias Happy, against whom a look out circular was also issued along with a non-bailable warrant from the special NIA court. Further investigation is going on in this matter.
STF arrested 4 people
Prior to the arrest of terrorist Harpreet Singh, in May this year, the Punjab Special Task Force had arrested Dilbag Singh on charges of supplying Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for the Ludhiana court blast. STF had arrested Dilbag along with three more of his accomplices involved in the blast conspiracy from Amritsar. All three were accused of providing IED to the sacked constable Gagandeep who allegedly carried out the court blast.
While disclosing the conspiracy, STF had told that IED was sent from Pakistan to Punjab through drone to execute this blast. According to the STF, three IEDs were sent via drone, one of which was used in the Ludhiana blast.
Investigation handed over to NIA
In the Ludhiana court blast case, the Punjab Police had registered a case under different sections on December 23 last year. After that, on January 13 this year, the responsibility of the investigation was handed over to the NIA.
The NIA said during the investigation that the person killed in the Ludhiana Court blast has been identified as Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Khanna. The blast was so strong that a wall of the court premises was damaged and even the glasses of some vehicles parked in the court premises were broken. The NIA said that the district court was functioning at the time of the blast.
