NIA: On Thursday, a team from Kochi’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided a few stores in north Chennai and found drugs, damning paperwork, and unaccounted cash totaling Rs 69 lakh. While looking into a case involving an illicit arms and narcotics trafficking with connections to Sri Lanka, the NIA team conducted the raids.

Based on a tip, the National Investigation Agency team began its investigation by raiding Muhammad Ilyaz’s store in Burma Bazaar on Thursday night. The National Investigation Agency team recovered Rs 69 lakh in undeclared money after a five-hour raid.

Ilyaz was later detained by the NIA team
Additionally, the central investigation agency searched the suspect’s home and found 10 kg of marijuana, 300 grammes of gold, and $1,000 SGD. Ilyaz was later detained by the NIA team based on the discovery. Several further adjacent stores were searched by the National Investigation Agency team.
