On Thursday, an email was sent to the Mumbai office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) expressing concern that a terrorist assault will be carried out in the nation’s financial capital.
National Investigation (Mumbai) office receives email which informs about possible terror attack in nation’s Financial Capital: Mumbai
According to sources, the email implied that someone associated with the Taliban would carry out the attack in Mumbai.
The city police and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) were informed of the threat.
The sender of the threat message claimed that someone with connections to the Taliban would carry out an attack in the city, and the email address used to make the threat had the letters “CIA,” according to the police.
It might be hoax
Pakistan has been identified as the IP (internet protocol) address of the sender, according to a police official.
The situation is the subject of an investigation. Police believe it might be a hoax, though, given similar emails were sent to the investigation agency in the past.
A similar email was sent to the government agency last month. According to sources, the police looked into it but found nothing, according to the investigation.
