NIA Raids: An official claimed on Sunday that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) searched four places in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, and one location in Pune, Maharashtra, as part of an inquiry to uncover a plot by the Islamic State-Khorasan Province (ISKP) to increase its operations in India. The homes of suspects Talha Khan in Pune and Akram Khan in Seoni were also searched by NIA teams.
From where the agency got the clues
The Delhi Police’s Special Cell opened the investigation after arresting a Kashmiri couple from Okhla in Delhi, Jahanzaib Sami Wani and his wife Hina Bashir Beigh. It was discovered that the pair was connected to the ISKP.
Investigations revealed Abdullah Basith, a different accused, had a part to play. In a different case that the NIA is looking into, Basith is detained in the Tihar Prison.
Various locations has been searched
In connection with the Shivmoga IS plot investigation, the NIA inspected three additional premises in Seoni on the same day. The suspects’ homes and businesses, Abdul Aziz Salafi and Shoeb Khan, were among the locations inspected.
In the Shivamoga case, the accused, including Mohamed Shariq, Maaz Muneer Khan, Yasin, and others, targeted both public and private properties, including warehouses, liquor stores, hardware stores, vehicles, and other properties belonging to members of a particular community, and committed over 25 incidents of arson and sabotage on the orders of their handler based abroad.
NIA Raids: Improvised explosive device
Even a simulated IED (improvised explosive device) blast was performed by them. Their handlers were providing the group with cryptocurrency.
Mohamed Shariq, the suspect, intended to detonate an IED on November 19 in Mangalore’s Kadri temple as part of a bigger plot. But, when the offender was making his way to the intended site, the IED detonated prematurely.
NIA Raids: Some got caught
Shoeb (26) sells auto parts, while Abdul Salafi (40), a maulana at the Seoni Jamia Masjid, works as a maulana. Salafi and Shoeb were caught spreading false information, including the notion that voting in elections is wrong for Muslims.
Young Muslims in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other southern states were being radicalised by the group, which was directed by Maulana Aziz Salafi, through provocative and incendiary talks on YouTube. Also, they were attempting to unite radicalised persons in the Seoni district.
Some materials has been seized
It was discovered from the materials recovered during the searches that this group was actively gathering data about events and actions taking place in many locations, including Afghanistan.
Early interviews with the suspects have shown them to be radicalised individuals who despise the concept of democracy in India and are ready to wage jihad against others who hold opposing views, according to the agency.
