Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya, on Wednesday expressed her support for the family of Anjali, 20, who was hit by a grey Baleno on January 1 in Sultanpuri, Delhi, and dragged for 12 kilometers.
Asha Devi dismissed Nidhi, a friend of Anjali, who had made the statement without making any accusations. She also asked that the situation be looked into and that the family be given financial assistance.
“I request authorities to investigate the case & support the family financially. The job should be given to the family member as soon as possible. I do not put allegations on anyone but I do not support what that girl (Nidhi) has said in her statement,” She was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Nidhi’s Statment
Moments before they were struck by the automobile, Nidhi was visible riding as Anjali’s passenger on the scooter. Police discovered Nidhi and Anjali thereafter examining the CCTV footage. She claimed in her statement that despite being in a “drunken state,” Anjali insisted on riding the two-wheeler. She continued by saying that the driver continued moving forward despite Anjali’s screams.
Anjali’s mother rejected Nidhi’s claims and said she has “never seen her”. “I don’t know Nidhi, I have never seen her. Anjali never used to drink, she never came home inebriated, and we don’t believe whatever claims Nidhi made,” she told reporters.
