Army personnel killing: A 33-year-old Army personnel died after a dispute over washing clothes near a water tank in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri. It was earlier reported that the Army jawan was beaten to death by a DMK councillor. However, Krishnagiri SP Saroj Kr Thakur on Thursday clarified that there’s no political angle to the murder.
The top cop said, “All nine accused have been remanded to police custody. It’s a case of assault, there’s no political angle to it. Those spreading rumours will be prosecuted. Police will provide all possible help to the victim’s family.”
A local issue: DMK
DMK Spokesperson, TKS Elangovan told news agencies that it was a local issue where a small quarrel got escalated and resulted in murder. “There was a murder and the police have taken action. It was a local issue where a small quarrel got escalated and resulted in murder. All those (involved) have been arrested,” said DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan.
Earlier on Thursday, BJP workers held a protest at Krishnagiri over the Army personnel’s death,. According to reports, Chinnasamy, a DMK member, and the soldier identified as Prabhu got into a heated argument on February 8 in the Pochampalli area over washing clothes near a tank. That same evening, the councillor Chinnasamy and nine other men allegedly attacked Prabhu and his brother Prabhakaran.
Before the police claitification, AIADMK slammed DMK for the death of the soldier. “Murder of the army man shows that whenever DMK is in power law and order are severely compromised. This has gone to the extent of killing an army officer. Police being only used to avenge vendetta from AIADMK and other opponents,” said AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan.
