Not found sufficient evidence to arrest Brij Bhushan, says Delhi Police amid Wrestlers’ Ultimatum

No evidence against Brij Bhushan Singh

The Delhi Police has said that the Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh cannot be arrested despite wrestlers’ protest as there hasn’t been sufficient evidence against him, ANI reported citing sources. After direction from the Supreme Court, Delhi Police filed a case against the WFI chief over sexual misconduct charges leveled by female grapples, including one minor.

Lack of evidence against WFI chief

The Delhi Police sources have claimed that there hasn’t been sufficient evidence to prove sexual misconduct allegations against Brij Bhushan to arrest him.

“Till now, we have not found sufficient evidence to arrest Brij Bhushan Singh. Within 15 days we’ll be filing our report in court. It could be in the form of a chargesheet or a final report. There is no supportive evidence to prove wrestlers’ claim,” ANI tweeted quoting top sources.

‘Can not arrest Brij Bhushan’

Brij Bhushan cannot be arrested as the sections of the POCSO added in the FIR has fewer than seven years imprisonment, said the investigating officer, as per ANI.

It further added, “The sections of POCSO added in FIR have less than Seven years imprisonment, so Investigating Officer cannot proceed with arrest as demanded by the accused. Neither he is influencing the witness nor he is destroying the evidence.”

‘Matter under investigation’

Brij Bhushan, who is also a six-time BJP MP, said that the decision taken by wrestles to consign their laurels to waters was purely taken by them. “The matter is under investigation by the Delhi Police. If there’s any truth to the charges (levelled against him by the wrestlers), an arrest will be made,” the WFI chief added.

Meanwhile, the wrestlers have issued a five-day ultimatum to authorities to take action in the case.
