Odisha Health Minister Naba Das has passed away. He was fatally attacked on Sunday afternoon. Firing was done on him during a program at Gandhi Chowk in Brajrajnagar. After this Naba Das was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Nab Das had a bullet injury on his chest.
The hospital said in a statement that the wounds were treated and steps were taken to improve the heart rate. He was treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but despite all efforts, he could not be saved and succumbed to his injuries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of the Odisha Health Minister. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed grief over the unfortunate demise of Minister Naba Kishore Das. The statement issued by the Odisha CMO said that he was an asset to both the government and the party. His demise is a great loss to the state of Odisha.
Earlier, Brajrajnagar SDPO Gupteshwar Bhoi had told that Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das had fired at the minister. The minister was injured in the incident. He was taken to the hospital. The local people caught hold of the accused ASI and handed him over to the police. An inquiry has been initiated to find out why the ASI fired at the minister.
According to the SDPO, the incident took place in Brajrajnagar town around 1 pm when Das was on his way to attend a meeting. The minister was first taken to the Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital, but later arrangements were made to airlift him to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for better treatment. Tension prevailed in the city following the attack on Das. The minister’s supporters questioned the lapse in his security.
Some supporters alleged that there was a conspiracy to target Das. The SDPO informed that the accused ASI has been arrested. His interrogation is on. More details will come to the fore only after a thorough investigation of the incident.
Naba Das was admitted to a local hospital, where his condition remained critical. Meanwhile minister Naba Das was airlifted to Bhubaneswar. The information about the attack on the Health Minister was given to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. He had reached Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar to meet Das. Naba Das was a senior BJD leader. Recently, he came into limelight after offering a 1.7 kg gold urn in the Shani temple.
Crime branch will investigate the incident
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s statement came out after the attack. He said that I am shocked by the unfortunate incident of this attack. I strongly condemn it. He said the crime branch has been directed to probe the incident. Senior officers of crime branch have been asked to go to the spot.
Statement of accused ASI wife
According to the reports, ASI Gopal Das fired five rounds at the Health Minister of Odisha. After the incident, the statement of the accused ASI’s wife also came to the fore. He told that before the incident, Gopal had talked to the daughter on a video call. He told that I do not know what happened. I came to know about this incident only through the news. I haven’t even spoken to Gopal since morning. He last came home five months ago.
