BJP sources have revealed alarming statistics: 54 collisions, 839 derailments, and 1451 deaths during Mamata Banerjee’s term; 79 collisions under Nitish Kumar; and 51 collisions during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s time in the Railway Ministry. This data was made public in the midst of criticism from Banerjee and Yadav, who questioned the incumbent government’s handling of railway safety.

This horrifying incident in Balasore, Odisha, saw three trains — Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a freight train — involved in a catastrophic chain-collision.
