Infantry is an important part of the Indian armed forces. Infantry has an important contribution in the security of the country. The day of October 27 has been dedicated to its contributions and glorious history and every year this day is celebrated as Infantry Day or Infantry Day.

After all, why do we celebrate ‘Infantry Day’ on 27th of October itself? To know this, you have to walk in the year of India’s independence i.e. 1947. When the Ranbankurs of this infantry saved a large part of the country from going into the hands of Pakistan. It was the first such military action in independent India in which the army was used on a large scale. The country also got its first Paramvir Chakra winner from the Infantry Division in 1947.
In 1947, a few days after the independence of the country, the Pakistani army, along with the tribesmen, was marching towards Srinagar, destroying Baramulla, when the first battalion of the Sikh Regiment landed at the old airport in Srinagar on 27 October 1947. After this, the Sikh Regiment had changed the course of the war, showing indomitable courage and sacrifice.
On 22 October 1947, when Jammu and Kashmir was attacked by Pakistani tribesmen, Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession document with the Government of India on 26 October. On Thursday, people celebrated the merger day at Jammu’s Tawi River Bridge. On this occasion, Vikramaditya Singh, grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh said that the merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India is final and there is a slap in the mouth of those who are raising questions on it.
In the Kashmir Valley where separatist leaders are celebrating anti-accession against the merger day. At the same time, apart from BJP in Jammu, different factions celebrated merger day in about a dozen places. Both the grandchildren of the then Maharaja Hari Singh also arrived at a program of merger day and cut 71 kg laddu.
Bar Association also celebrated the merger day in Jammu. The association asked the people to celebrate the merger day in all Jammu and Kashmir on October 26-27. The president of the Bar Association, Balbir Singh Salathia, told that on 26 October Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the merger letter and on 27 October the government accepted the merger letter. On Friday in the Kashmir Valley, the Hurriyat Conference and other separatist leaders have decided to celebrate Black Day and have also called for a Kashmir bandh.
