Manipur Violence: A delegation of 21 MPs from the INDIA opposition group will arrive in the violent Manipur on a two-day tour to assess the situation there. Since more than three months ago, the state has been plagued by ethnic conflict, which has resulted in at least 160 fatalities. The team will meet with the governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey, on Sunday morning, and they will also tour two relief camps in both locations. The delegation of opposition MPs has asked the state government for permission to use local helicopters so they can travel to Churachandpur, where new violence has broken out. After that, they will offer suggestions to the administration and Parliament for how to address the issues in the violent state.

Anurag Thakur’s Critique and Upcoming Delegation’s Assessment in Manipur
Union Minister, Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs, Anurag Thakur arrives at Kolkata airport, says, “It is just a showoff by the INDIA alliance MPs who have gone to Manipur. The opposition & its allies never spoke when Manipur used to burn during their rule in the state…When they come back from Manipur, I would request Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to bring them to West Bengal. I want to ask Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury does he agree with the atrocities against women in the state…In Rajasthan where there are killings & crimes against women, the opposition did not go there. Opposition Leaders Set to Visit Manipur, Vow to Prioritize People’s Plight
The delegation of 20 leaders will include Congress leaders Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi, Phulo Devi Netam, and K Suresh; TMC’s Sushmita Dev; Sushil Gupta from AAP; Arvind Sawant from Shiv Sena (UBT); Kanimozhi Karunanidhi from the DMK; JD(U) leaders Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Aneel Prasad . “We are going there not to raise political issues but to understand the pain of the people of Manipur,” said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. “We have been appealing to the government to find a solution to the sensitive situation which has emerged in Manipur. It is not a law and order situation but there is communal violence there. It is also affecting its neighbouring states. The government has not fulfilled its responsibility. We are going to assess the real situation on the ground in Manipur,” he detailed.
Opposition Delegation Gears Up for Manipur Visit Amid Government’s Controversial Silence
On July 29 and 30, a delegation made up of 20 MPs representing 16 different parties in the opposition’s coalition, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), will travel to Manipur. The authorities will evaluate the current state of affairs in the violent state. The delegation of 20 leaders will include Congress leaders Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi, Phulo Devi Netam, and K Suresh; TMC’s Sushmita Dev; Sushil Gupta from AAP; Arvind Sawant from Shiv Sena (UBT); Kanimozhi Karunanidhi from the DMK; JD(U) leaders Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Aneel Prasad. The BJP-led government at the centre, according to Hussain, is being “stubborn” by prohibiting discussion of the Manipur issue during the current monsoon session of Parliament. Additionally, he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that the state of Manipur had experienced extreme violence, rapes of women, and “ethnic cleansing” but that the PM “does not have time” for the region.
Opposition Slams PM’s Priorities, Pledges Support to Address Manipur’s Crisis
According to Naseer Hussain, the prime minister has the time to travel to states that are about to hold elections, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where he criticises opposition figures without saying a word for the people of Manipur. The opposition’s intention to send a delegation to Manipur, according to the Congress MP, will signal to the state’s impacted citizens that the Parliament is concerned about their situation. The opposition has been pressing the prime minister to address the issue in ethnically divided Manipur in Parliament and then hold a full discussion about it. Since May 3, ethnic violence in the northeastern state of Manipur has claimed the lives of more than 160 individuals.
