Four persons have been detained in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on suspicion of installing covert cameras in OYO hotel rooms in order to film private moments between couples. According to reports, the group would then use the couples as a bargaining chip and threaten to leak the footage if they did not comply. They noted that preliminary investigation appears to rule out hotel employee involvement in the scheme.
Before checking out, the group’s members are believed to have reserved rooms at OYO hotels and installed hidden cameras. After a few days, they returned and took away the cameras. They then got in touch with the intended couple, according to the police.
According to reports, the four individuals, Vishnu Singh, Abdul Wahav, Pankaj Kumar, and Anurag Kumar Singh, are members of three distinct groups that operate in Noida. These groups engaged in a number of unlawful operations, such as operating unlicensed call centres and supplying fake SIM cards for illicit purposes.
Police recovered 21 mobiles and 22 ATM cards
The items recovered during the raid included 11 computers, 21 mobile phones, and 22 ATM cards, according to police authorities, who also noted that the gang is rumoured to have activities all throughout the nation.
The accused Vishnu and Abdul Wahav used to send videos of intimate moments to the couple’s phone and demand money from them, threatening to post the videos online if there demands were not met. The third accused, Pankaj, used to provide the registered SIM and account registered in the name of other persons for the extortion money,” senior cop Saad Mian Khan said, explaining the gang’s modus operandi.
“11 laptops, 7 CPUs, 21 mobiles, 22 ATM cards of different banks, one PAN card, one Aadhar card, 14 fake I Pharma and a huge amount of fake documents, I card, SIM card were recovered from their possession. One of his companions is still absconding,” the police official said. While, OYO hasn’t responded to the incident yet.
