Param Rudra Super Computers: PM Modi Launches Three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to Boost India’s Technological and Scientific Research

The new systems, deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata at a cost of ₹130 crore, mark a major milestone in India’s journey toward scientific and technological self-reliance.

Param Rudra Super Computers: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched three indigenously developed PARAM Rudra supercomputers as part of India’s National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). The new systems, deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata at a cost of ₹130 crore, mark a major milestone in India’s journey toward scientific and technological self-reliance.

PM Modi Launches Three PARAM Rudra Supercomputers to Boost India’s Technological and Scientific Research

The PARAM Rudra supercomputers are designed to support advanced research across various scientific disciplines, including astronomy, physics, cosmology, and earth sciences. Speaking at the launch, PM Modi emphasized the critical role of technology and computing in every sector, stating, “There is no sector which does not rely on technology and computing capability. Our share should not be in bits and bytes but in terabytes and petabytes.”

The supercomputers will be instrumental in advancing India’s high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities

The supercomputers will be instrumental in advancing India’s high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities. The Giant Metre Radio Telescope (GMRT) in Pune will leverage the system to investigate astronomical phenomena like Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs). In Delhi, the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) will use the technology to enhance research in material science and atomic physics. Meanwhile, the S N Bose Centre in Kolkata will focus on cutting-edge research in physics, cosmology, and earth sciences.

“With PARAM Rudra supercomputers, India takes a significant step towards self-reliance in computing and driving innovation in science and tech,” PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter), reinforcing the importance of this technological achievement for India’s future.

The launch of the PARAM Rudra systems underlines India’s commitment to expanding its presence in the global HPC arena, with the aim of empowering researchers and driving technological breakthroughs.
