Parliament Special Session: Today, a historic transition unfolds as the operations of both Houses of Parliament commence in the newly constructed Parliament Building, signifying a significant departure from the iconic old Parliament House to the new building unveiled this year. In the Special Session of Parliament scheduled for today, the Lok Sabha is set to convene in the new premises at 1:15 PM, with the Rajya Sabha following suit at 2:15 PM.
On Tuesday, a special event titled will bring together members of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha in the Central Hall of Parliament. Leading this event will be Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
This second day of the special parliamentary session holds historical significance not only because it marks the commencement of parliamentary activities in the new building but also because it will honor the longest-serving MPs from both Houses by granting them a special seat in the Central Hall of the current Parliament building during a joint gathering.
Who will deliver speech today in the new Parliament?
The proceedings in the new Parliament House will commence with the Rajya Sabha at 2:15 pm and the Lok Sabha at 1:15 pm. Prior to this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a special address at an event organized in the Central Hall of the current Parliament building. During this event, addresses will also be given by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, NDA leader in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal, and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
Additionally, among the present Lok Sabha members, Maneka Gandhi holds the longest tenure, while in the Rajya Sabha, the most seasoned member is Manmohan Singh. Moreover, in terms of cumulative membership across both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Shibu Soren ranks first. Consequently, these three MPs have been chosen to address the special session. The one-and-a-half-hour program will conclude with the national anthem, following which all members will transition to the new Parliament building under the guidance of senior leaders.
Second Day of the Special Parliament session
On the second day of the special session, activities will commence at the new Parliament building, with MPs gathering for a photograph at 9:30 am. A function is scheduled for 11:00 am in the Central Hall. According to sources, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will convene in the new Parliament building at 1:15 pm and 2:15 pm, respectively, on Tuesday.
The agenda for Day 2 of the special session includes discussions on India’s Chandrayaan-3 Mission. Additionally, the Women’s Reservation Bill, which received Cabinet approval on September 18, is expected to be presented in the Lok Sabha. Furthermore, there is the possibility of the OBC Reservations Bill being tabled during the second day of the Parliament session.
