Passport News: In a bold move towards modernization, the Indian government is set to launch Passport Seva Programme 2.0, a significant upgrade to the existing passport issuance system. This initiative, featuring a chip-embedded passport, aims to revolutionize the process through advanced technology and heightened security measures.
Digital Revolution Unleashed
The cornerstone of Passport Seva Programme 2.0 is the establishment of a state-of-the-art digital ecosystem. This involves a comprehensive overhaul of existing processes, creating a seamless passport service system by integrating various stakeholders and databases.
User-Friendly Interface and Swift Processing
The program prioritizes enhancing the citizen interface by incorporating the latest technology. This translates to faster processing times, simplified application procedures, and an overall improved user experience for passport applicants.
Fortified Security Measures
Security takes center stage in the new system, with government ownership of critical assets such as Data Centres, Databases, and Application Software. Strict access controls and biometrics integration will safeguard against unauthorized access, ensuring the integrity of the passport issuance process.
Networked Facilities for Seamless Operations
To facilitate continuous and secure operations, the program establishes networked facilities, including Data Centres, a Disaster Recovery Centre, and a Government Secure Repository. These facilities will be interconnected with Passport Seva Kendras, Post Office Passport Seva Kendras, passport offices, and Indian missions abroad. Monitoring will be ensured through a Network Operation Centre (NOC) and Security Operation Centre (SOC).
Biometric Innovation for Enhanced Security
A groundbreaking move involves embedding biometric information, including photographs and fingerprints, on a chip in the new passports. This advancement not only enhances passport security but also acts as a deterrent to the production of counterfeit passports.
Swift and Efficient Passport Processing
The Passport Seva Programme 2.0 aims to significantly reduce the current passport issuance duration of four to five days. This streamlined approach will make the entire process faster and more efficient for passport applicants.
