Recently, the central government, giving relief from the rising prices of petrol and diesel, cut the excise duty of five and ten rupees. After this the relief continues again. Oil companies did not increase the prices of petrol and diesel on Friday. The price of petrol in Delhi is Rs 103.97 per liter and the price of diesel is Rs 86.67 per liter only. There is no change in fuel prices as compared to Thursday.
There has been a huge jump in the prices of petrol and diesel this year. Fuel prices increased for seven consecutive days before Diwali. However, after that the central and many state governments, providing relief to the public, cut excise duty and VAT. According to the petroleum company Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), there was no change in the price of petrol in Mumbai, after which the price of one liter of petrol is 109.98. In Mumbai, diesel is being sold at the rate of Rs 94.14 per liter.

On the occasion of Chhoti Diwali, the central government, taking an important step, reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10. After this, the BJP ruled states started VAT. The states which had reduced VAT from petrol and diesel were states like UP, Bihar, Goa, Manipur, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura. After this, many BJP leaders had demanded to reduce VAT in the states with opposition parties.

The price of petrol and diesel in the country is fixed daily. Excise duty, VAT and dealer’s commission are also included in oil prices. The factors on which oil companies decide the price of petrol and diesel include US Dollars exchange rate, crude oil price. Companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum update petrol and diesel prices every morning.
