He also made reference to the Mahabharata’s account of how Dronacharya treated Ekalavya. “Honourable President Droupadi Murmu was not invited to the [new] Parliament building’s opening [inauguration].” When asked for a recent example of societal prejudice, the Tamil Nadu minister responded, “That is the best example.”
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Teacher’s Day Reference to Ekalavya and Sanatana Dharma Controversy
The head of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) made a subtle allusion to the Mahabharata in his greeting for Teacher’s Day on Tuesday, saying, “The bond between our Dravidian movement and teachers who preach virtue without asking for thumbs will continue forever.” Dronacharya refused Ekalavya archery training because of his lowly caste. However, he developed his archery skills independently and outperformed Arjuna, Dronacharya’s pupil. Ekalavya complied with Dronacharya’s demand that he give his thumb to his master after learning about this, rendering him unable to use an arrow. The state Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister also said, “Teachers always think of future generations.” A significant uproar was caused earlier this month when Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, associated Sanatana Dharma with “malaria” and “dengue” while advocating for its abolition. He said that the caste structure and prejudice are the foundation of Sanatana Dharma. “Rather than opposing Sanatana, it should be eradicated. The name Sanatana is from Sanskrit. It is against social justice and equality,” the minister said.
Udhayanidhi Stalin Stands Firm on Sanatana Dharma Comments Amid Controversy
Udhayanidhi Stalin insisted he stuck by his statements despite the fact that they sparked a significant political storm at the national level. He asserted that he “never called for the genocide of people who are following Sanatana Dharma,” and he added that some people had misrepresented his remarks. “Sanatana Dharma is a principle that divides people in the name of caste and religion. Uprooting Sanatana Dharma is upholding humanity and human equality. I stand firmly by every word I have spoken,” the minister said.
