Arriving in India for a two-day Official visit, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina represented a turning point in the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and India. The two adjacent nations’ relations are expected to get stronger as a result of her visit, which was invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Warm Welcome for PM Sheikh Hasina
Upon her arrival on Friday, PM Hasina was greeted by an array of Indian dignitaries, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Union Minister JP Nadda, Ministers of State Jitendra Singh and Kirti Vardhan Singh. The newly-appointed Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirtivardhan Singh, extended a warm welcome at the airport.
Strengthening a Trusted Partnership
In a social media post, the Ministry of External Affairs’ official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, underlined the significance of PM Hasina’s visit. He emphasised how this visit will further strengthen the cherished alliance between Bangladesh and India. Jaishankar repeated these remarks after meeting with Hasina and expressed gratitude for her advice on how to strengthen the unique relationship between the two countries.
Highlights of the Visit
This visit is the first incoming bilateral State visit since the formation of the new government following the 18th Lok Sabha elections. During her stay, PM Hasina is scheduled to hold bilateral consultations with PM Modi and meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Shared History and Growing Ties
Bangladesh and India have a close relationship because of their shared history, culture, and location. Under the direction of PM Modi and Sheikh Hasina, these relationships have gotten stronger over time. A number of significant bilateral initiatives in 2023 demonstrated the robustness of this partnership. The joint opening of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline and PM Hasina’s attendance at the Voice of the Global South Summit are two noteworthy occasions.
