Her family was of Chandela Rajput descent and her marriage to Dalpat Shah of Garha Kingdom secured an alliance between two powerful dynasties in Central India. Upon death of her husband, she took reins of kingdom and served as regent to her young son, Vir Narayan. She is best remembered for her role in defending her kingdom against Mughal forces under King Akbar. She led her forces in a long and bitterly fought campaign against the numerically and technologically superior Mughal army but was eventually overrun.
