During the first parliamentary session of the 18th Lok Sabha today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a sharp rebuke to the Congress and Rahul Gandhi while responding to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi
PM Modi indirectly aimed at Rahul Gandhi, likening the proceedings to entertaining a child. He recounted an anecdote where elders console a child who falls off a bicycle by pretending an ant has perished, comparing it to the current scenario in the Lok Sabha.
PM Modi criticised Congress’s handling of recent electoral defeats, citing it as the third largest setback in the party’s history. He referenced the ‘Mausi’ character from ‘Sholay,’ illustrating the party’s struggle despite losses in multiple states.
99 Marks: A Tale of Political Critique
In another pointed anecdote, PM Modi recalled a student celebrating 99 marks out of 543, highlighting the perspective of relative success amidst broader failure. He said, “I remember an incident, there was a boy who scored 99 marks and he used to show it to everyone. When people heard 99, they used to encourage him a lot. Then a teacher came and said why are you distributing sweets? He did not score 99 out of 100 but 99 out of 543. Now who will explain to that child that you have created a world record in failure.”
