Introduction to PM Surya Ghar
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is the name of the rooftop solar initiative that was revealed in the interim budget that was presented on February 1. At a cost of over ₹75,000 crores, the rooftop solar project intends to supply up to 300 units of free electricity every month, enough to light up one crore houses.
Encouraging Urban Bodies and Panchayats
Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats will be encouraged to promote rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions in order to popularise this initiative at the local level. The government estimates that the benefits of solarization will include: saving households up to ₹15,000–18,000 crore annually through free solar electricity and selling the excess to distribution companies; charging electric vehicles; providing opportunities for entrepreneurship for numerous suppliers of supplies and installations; and providing jobs for young people with technical skills in manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.
