“Deeply concerned about the news of rioting and vandalism against the State institutions in Brasilia. Democratic traditions must be respected by everyone. We extend our full support to the Brazilian authorities,” he tweeted tagging Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
After hundreds of Jair Bolsonaro’s far-right followers ransacked the national Congress, the presidential mansion, and the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister responded. The riots have been denounced by President Lula as a “fascist” assault. Bolsonaro has denounced the “pillaging and invasions” and denied any involvement in the violence.

Lula was elected president a week ago defeating Bolsonaro
The 77-year-old leftist Lula was elected president a week ago after defeating Bolsonaro in Brazil’s brutally polarising elections in October. Since Lula beat Bolsonaro, ardent Bolsonaro supporters have been demonstrating in front of military installations and urging military intervention to prevent Lula from assuming office.
President Lula’s “baseless” claims that Bolsonaro started the riots have been dismissed by the Brazilian leader. The former president, who moved from Brazil to the US state of Florida, defended the right to “peaceful protests” in a tweet.
