Atal Bihari Vajpayee Anniversary: Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a former Indian prime minister, passed away five years ago today. The BJP has planned a programme to honour the late BJP leader. On this occasion, all of the BJP’s prominent leaders are coming. The unique aspect is that the BJP has for the first time invited NDA constituents to the death anniversary programme. The programme commemorating Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s passing was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and all the major BJP figures. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Atal Samadhi on this day, where he presented flowers and paid respect to the late leader. On this occasion, President Draupadi Murmu, who also made an appearance in this programme, paid respect to Vajpayee.
Prominent Figures Converge to Honor Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Memory
All of the top NDA politicians are attending this memorial service after accepting an invitation from the BJP. The event was also attended by NDA leaders Jitan Ram Manjhi, Sudesh Mahto, Thambi Durai, Rahul Shewale of the Shiv Sena, Praful Patel, Agatha Sangma, and Anupriya Patel. Other NDA leaders can also access the programme in addition to these. At his samadhi sthal always at Atal, a programme has been planned on the former prime minister’s fifth death anniversary. Namita Bhattacharya and Ranjan Bhattacharya, the daughter and son-in-law of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, also attended the programme on this occasion. Anurag Thakur, a Union Minister, attended the memorial service. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar and a former NDA ally, is also travelling to Delhi to pay respects to Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his mausoleum on the occasion of the anniversary of his passing.

- He Wrote the DNA for the Right To Education:- Here’s a surprise for you if you thought the Right To Education was solely a Congress accomplishment: Vajpayee laid the groundwork for it with the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, which declared education for children between the ages of 6 and 14 to be a basic right.
- He turned India into a nation with nuclear weapons:- This occurred in 1998, a year in which India conducted five nuclear tests within a single week. Nuclear weapon capabilities is a potent negotiating tool, as we have seen with our odd love-hate relationship with Pakistan.Here is a picture of the party that followed the test at Pokhran. Vajpayee, George Fernandes, Abdul Kalam, and R. Chidambaram can all be seen in the picture (from left to right). However, after visiting Japan’s Ground Zero, Vajpayee realised the negative effects of nuclear weapons and expressed his sentiment in the poem Hiroshima Ki Peeda (Hiroshima’s Pain).
- He contributed to the success of our telecom:- Rajiv Gandhi is supposed to have introduced the telecom revolution to India, according to the Congress. Rahul Gandhi even claimed, “You got cellphones because Rajiv Gandhi heard you,” during a rally. Our tele-density increased from 0.6% in 1989 to 2.8% in 1999, a decade after Rajiv Gandhi left office—not exactly a revolution. Contrarily, Vajpayee’s New Telecom Policy (NTP) caused a surge in the penetration rate of telecom services from less than 3% in 1999 to over 70% in October 2012. Don’t trust us? In his book “India — The Emerging Giant,” Professor Arvind Panagariya of Columbia University also accords Vajpayee the proper credit for his contribution to accelerating our telecom success story.
- Throughout his reign, he kept the GDP growing quickly:- India had two severe cyclones (1999 and 2000), the worst drought in thirty years (2002–2003), the second Gulf War, an oil crisis from 2003, the Kargil conflict from 1999, and an attack on the Parliament during his tenure. Yet, during his administration, our GDP remained stable.
- India was sent to the moon by him:- “Our country is now ready to fly high in the field of science. I am pleased to announce that India will send her own spacecraft to the moon by 2008. It is being named Chandrayaan-1” 56th Indian Independence Day, August 15 2003. The Chandrayan-1 project went well for him. This undoubtedly laid the stage for India’s dominance in science, as we can see from ISRO’s incredible accomplishments.
