Announcing that he will donate his prize money of Rs. 1 lakh to the Namami Gange project, he said it was an honour to win a prize named after Tilak, a leader in the liberation struggle. At the Lokmanya Tilak National Award ceremony in Pune, he appeared on stage alongside principal guest Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, headed a breakaway section from Pawar’s party that just joined the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government in the state. Today, Modi began his trip to Pune by praying at the venerable Dagdusheth temple.

Tuesday’s Lokmanya Tilak National Award ceremony hosted by the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in Pune saw the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Vice-Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Trustee Sushil Kumar Shinde, Trust President Deepak Tilak, Trust Vice-President Rohit Tilak, Trustee Geetali Mone-Tilak, and Trustee Praniti Tilak are all present with him on stage.
