PM Modi: In an interview with The Wall Street Journal conducted before boarding the Air India One for his historic trip to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a number of issues of national and global import.
Here are his responses to queries on five important subjects
- An expanded position for India on the global stage: We do not view India as displacing any other nation when it comes to a larger position on the global scene. We see this as India reclaiming its proper place in the world.
- His Positivity and Thought Process: “The world should be asked if it wants India to be there. There needs to be an evaluation of the current membership.”
- On China: “Peace and tranquilly in the border areas are essential for normal bilateral relations with China.”
- On Ukraine War: “Some claim that we are impartial. We’re not impartial, though. We support the cause of peace.

PM Modi emphasizes supply chain diversity for India’s global position and resilience
Modi advocated for supply chain diversity in the interview, claiming that India is taking up its proper place in the international arena. Please understand that we do not consider India as displacing any other nation. We see this as India reclaiming its proper place in the world. Today’s globe is more connected and dependent on one another than ever before. Supply chains should be more diverse, the PM was cited as saying in the WSJ piece, in order to foster resilience.
