Partition Horrors Remembrance Day
The day marked the partition, leading to the creation of Pakistan as a Muslim-majority country and the great violence, displacement, and loss of life that enveloped these ructions. Today is reminiscent of that sad legacy of division and suffering.
The Modi government, since 2021, commemorates August 14 as ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,’ signifying the sacrifices and struggles during this turbulent time. This day is symbolic of the persistent pain the partition has caused and the grinding grit with which the people who underwent it live on.
