PM Modi with his allies may meet with President Draupadi Murmu tonight, according to sources. Numerous political analysts think PM Modi can meet with the President and assert his right to form the government. It is reported that PM Modi tendered his resignation to Draupadi Murmu this morning.
Formal Recommendation to President
According to sources, the Union cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recommended on Wednesday to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha. They added that “after the meeting at his home which took place the day after the results of the general election, Modi would now formally recommend President Droupadi Murmu.” Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu Tweeted, “President Droupadi Murmu has accepted advice of the Cabinet to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha with immediate effect. The President signed the Order dissolving the 17th Lok Sabha in exercise of the powers conferred upon her by Sub-clause (b) of Clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution.”
Election Results Overview
The current 17th Lok Sabha’s tenure expires on June 16. The main opposition party, the Congress, won 99 seats, while the BJP secured 240 seats on its own, giving the NDA a resounding majority in the 543-member legislature. On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tendered his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu. Parties that make up the NDA gathered at the prime minister’s Delhi home.
