PM Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday accused the INDIA group of endangering “Sanatana Dharma,” and by extension, the nation’s culture and its people, in a scathing attack on the opposition. Udhayanidhi Stalin, a minister for Tamil Nadu, made a comment about “eradicating Sanatana Dharma” that sparked the uproar. A “proper response” to this comment was to be given, PM Modi had previously ordered his ministers to do.
PM Modi Accuses Opposition Alliance of Targeting Sanatana Dharma and Calls for Vigilance
Currently, Prime Minister Modi claimed that the Opposition ‘ghamandia’ alliance aims to destroy ‘Sanatana Dharma’ while speaking to a crowd in Madhya Pradesh‘s Sagar area. “A few groups are working to divide the country and society… They have come together to form an INDI alliance. They have also decided on a hidden agenda to attack India’s culture. The INDI alliance has come with a resolution to end ‘Sanatan’ culture,” he said. The Sanatana tradition, which the Prime Minister noted had been a source of inspiration for millions, is what the INDIA alliance is accused of wanting to destroy, according to the Prime Minister. According to him, the push for the “eradication of Sanatana Dharma” has gone too far and needs to be resisted. “Today, they have openly started targeting Sanatana, tomorrow they will increase the attacks on us. All ‘Sanatanis’ across the country and the people who love our country will have to be alert. We will have to stop such people,” he added.
Controversy Over Sanatana Dharma Remarks Continues as Opposition Faces Accusations of Hinduphobia
DMK politician and minister for Tamil Nadu Udhayanidhi Stalin compared Sanatana Dharma to dengue and malaria earlier this month. The BJP has been attacking the INDIA coalition, a collection of 28 opposition parties, after seizing on this. A Raja, a former Union minister and DMK Lok Sabha MP, compared the simmering debate to illnesses like leprosy and HIV. The BJP has accused opposition leaders of having “deep-rooted Hinduphobia” as a result of the remarks. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, said on Wednesday that Sanatana Dharma is the “Rashtriya” (national) religion of Bharat and that those who seek power cannot destroy it. “It is unfortunate that even today many people living in Bharat are humiliating Sanatana Dharma. They do not miss any opportunity to attack Indian values, ideals and principles,” Adityanath said. A case was filed against Udhayanidhi Stalin in Thane, Maharashtra, while the controversy surrounding his comments on Sanatana Dharma rages on. According to the complainant, Stalin’s comments offended the sensibilities and religious beliefs of adherents of Sanatana Dharma.
