Following a day full of diplomatic meetings, Prime Minister Modi personally congratulated India’s Paralympic champions on their outstanding performances at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024. PM Modi’s Call from Brunei to Paralympics Champions

The 40th anniversary of India and Brunei’s diplomatic relations was celebrated by PM Modi’s historic first bilateral visit, during which PM Modi took a personal moment to connect with India’s Paralympic stars. In spite of his busy schedule, he took the time to congratulate medalists Yogesh Kathuniya, Sumit Antil, Sheetal Devi, and Rakesh Kumar for their outstanding performances in Paris.

Yogesh Kathuniya secured silver in the men’s Discus Throw F56 final, his second consecutive Paralympic silver, while Sumit Antil shined in javelin with a record-breaking throw, successfully defending his gold. Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi, in the Mixed Team Compound event, clinched a bronze after a thrilling 156-155 victory over Italy.

India’s Paralympic Glory

India has achieved unprecedented success at the Paris Paralympics, with some of its athletes displaying medal-winning performances. Notably, after his triumph in Tokyo three years prior, Indian para-shuttler Suhas Yathiraj won a silver in badminton for the second tournament. Similarly, after defeating Rina Marlina of Indonesia in the women’s para-badminton SH6, Nithya Sre Sivan won her first-ever Paralympic medal in bronze.

Adding to the excitement, Nitesh made headlines by winning gold in the men’s singles SL3 category of para-badminton, outclassing his British competitor in a nail-biting match. Manisha Ramadass also emerged victorious, clinching a bronze in her category with a dominating performance against Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren.

In para-shooting, Avani Lekhara delivered a golden moment for India by winning the women’s 10m air rifle event with a personal best score. Manish Narwal added to the tally by bagging a silver in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1. On the track, Preeti claimed her second bronze medal with a stellar performance in the 200m T-35 race, following her earlier success in the 100m event.

Nishad Kumar soared to new heights with a silver in the men’s high jump T47, further solidifying India’s standing on the global stage.
