Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural session of the ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) in Delhi, recalling the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament and emphasizing the need for a unified definition of terrorism. He expressed his concern over the lack of consensus on this critical issue and warned that the enemies of humanity take advantage of the absence of a uniform definition.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the world has been grappling with terrorism, and the ongoing disagreements on its definition are a source of sadness. He called for parliaments worldwide to come together to combat terrorism more effectively. PM Modi reminded the audience that India has faced cross-border terrorism for decades, resulting in the loss of numerous innocent lives.

Addressing the current global challenges, PM Modi stressed the importance of unity and cooperation, noting that conflicts and confrontations do not benefit anyone. He advocated for a human-centric approach, emphasizing the need to build global trust and address the challenges facing humanity collectively.
The Prime Minister also touched on India’s parliamentary practices and electoral processes, highlighting the country’s rich democratic history. He discussed the efficiency and transparency brought about by the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in Indian elections.
The G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit was hosted by the Indian Parliament as part of India’s G20 presidency and brought together Speakers of Parliaments from G20 member countries and invitee nations.
