PM Modi: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India places a great priority on its relations with Africa. Throughout addition, he noted that 16 new Indian embassies were opened throughout Africa. “Today, India is Africa’s fourth-largest trade partner and the fifth-largest investor country,” he added.
PM Modi’s Vision for Africa’s Growth and Development
PM Modi spoke on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue. “Be it power projects in Sudan, Burundi and Rwanda, sugar plants in Ethiopia and Malawi, technology pass in Mozambique, Côte d’Ivoire and Eswatini, and, campuses built by Indian universities in Tanzania and Uganda, India has always prioritised capacity building and infrastructure development of African nations”, PM Modi said. He added that India is a key ally in transforming Africa into a superpower. “Under Agenda 2063, India is a reliable and close partner in making Africa a global powerhouse. To reduce the digital divide in Africa, we have provided over 15000 scholarships in tele-education and telemedicine,” he said.
PM Modi’s Commitment to Africa’s Stability and Progress
PM Modi also emphasised that India is collaborating with African nations to tackle terrorism and piracy. “Almost 4,400 Indian peacekeepers, including women, are also deployed in Africa to restore peace,” he said. India has built defence academies and colleges in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. Additionally, he emphasised that teams had been sent out for training in Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Uganda, Lesotho, Zambia, Mauritius, and Seychelles. He also mentioned that South Africa and India are collaborating on vaccine production while speaking at the BRICS-Africa Outreach.
PM Modi Highlights India’s Support and Collaborative Efforts Amid Pandemic
“During the time of the Covid pandemic, we have provided food items and vaccines to different countries. Now, we are also working with South Africa for joint manufacturing of Covid as well as other vaccines,” he said. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his congratulations to the leaders and people of Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates on being accepted as full members of the BRICS and said that India has always supported the organization’s growth. In a speech before fellow BRICS leaders, PM Modi stated that India has always thought that bringing in new members will improve BRICS as a group.
