Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, celebrates his birthday on Wednesday, and the prime minister wished him a long life and good health. PM Modi was among the first to wish Kejriwal a happy birthday amidst the continuing dispute between Delhi and the Centre. This year, Kejriwal turns 55. On Wednesday, Kejriwal tweeted a news report about Delhi having the lowest inflation in the nation, per data from the Central Government.
This year, Kejriwal’s birthday falls on the same day as the Delhi Assembly’s first session, which is expected to be filled with controversy over the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2023. On Twitter, now known as X, the chief minister of Delhi also thanked PM Modi for the well wishes.
Kejriwal and the Centre at odds
Since Parliament passed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2023, Kejriwal and the Centre have been at odds. The Act gives the Centre the authority to seize control of the national capital’s bureaucracy. “People are asking me how will I work now. Today, I assure the people of Delhi that the work will continue irrespective of whoever wants to take away the power,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal mentioned the Act in his Independence Day speech on Tuesday and claimed that the rights of the Delhi people were being taken away.
According to the Act, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi would have responsibility over all appointments, transfers, and postings for Group A services.
Conflicts between the BJP and AAP also erupted during the recently finished Parliament after three MPs, including Raghav Chadha, were expelled during the session. Apart from Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh and Sushik Kumar Rinku, the only other member of the AAP’s Lok Sabha, were suspended.
