Congress and BJP making huge outreach to win over Gujjar and Meena communities

Gujjars constitute 9 to 12 percent of Rajasthan’s population and call shots in 40 to 50 assembly seats in eastern Rajasthan. They have in the past launched violent agitations for reservation and had also recently threatened to block Rahul Gandhi’s entry into the state. In the last elections , they had wholeheartedly backed the Congress Party in the hope that Sachin Pilot would be made the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, a first for Gujjars. Off late Sachin Pilot is at loggerheads in Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and had also rebelled against his own party to become the CM of this crucial Hindi Heartland state.

BJP strategists are working tirelessly to woo the Gujjar community , with PM Modi himself leading from the front to win over the trust of the community.

Tribals constitute 13.48% of Rajasthan’s population , with the Meena’s forming the majority. They have traditionally backed the Congress, but with emergence of BJP’s Kirodi Meena as heavy weight politician from the Gujjar community. Kirodi Meena has been working tirelessly to firm up the base for the Saffron Party.  Mr Meena is a five time MLA, two time Lok Sabha MP and a current member of Rajya Sabha.

Both national parties have walked extra mile in the outreach to win over the support of electorally conscious Gujjar community, with PM Modi visiting Malaseri in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara on the 1111th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Dev Narayan , a folk deity revered by the Gujjar community , and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot declaring a state holiday, just ahead of the PM’s visit, to honour the deity.

PM Modi by inaugurating the project is expected to appeal of voters from both the community. The grand expressway is promises to bring down travel time from National Capital Delhi to India’s financial capital Mumbai by half to just 12 hours.
