Indian Flag: In the district of Uttara Kannada in Karnataka, an individual named Umar Farooq faced legal repercussions due to an unconventional and disrespectful action involving the Indian national flag. Farooq is a resident of Sirsi City, and his action, which garnered widespread attention and provoked anger, was that he hoisted a distorted Indian flag on his residence.
Man arrested for hoisting distorted flag
This modified flag did not resemble the well-known tricolour; instead, it presented a distorted version. Notably, it prominently displayed a green dome at its centre, completely concealing the Ashok Chakra, a crucial element of the Indian national flag.
Such a flagrant and disrespectful modification of this national symbol drew public notice when images of Farooq’s residence, adorned with the altered flag, began circulating widely on social media.
After the images of the man’s house emerged on social media, law enforcement authorities initiated action. Umar Farooq was subsequently charged under IPC Section 2, which pertains to offenses related to insulting the Indian National Flag.
Investigation currently underway
An ongoing investigation is being conducted to delve into the reasons behind this action and to assess any potential consequences it might have. The Superintendent of Uttara Kanada Police stated that, “An FIR has been lodged and we have arrested him. The green dome was affixed to the Indian flag. A probe is underway.”
