Election Commission of India: After a lull of couple of months, India will once again experience Poll season which will begin from February onwards. The Election Commission has announced elections to State Assembly’s for Northern Eastern States of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura.
Elections for the Tripura Assembly are scheduled on February 16, while elections for Nagaland and Meghalaya are scheduled for February 27.
Election Schedules announced for Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said during the first press conference of the year that the exam dates in these states were taken into consideration when scheduling the election dates. Additionally, he noted that women have historically participated in considerable numbers in these states’ Assembly elections.

Election Schedule
Tripura
In Tripura, the date of the gazette notification in January 21 and the last date for filing nominations is January 30. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is on February 2
Meghalaya and Nagaland
In Meghalaya and Nagaland, the gazette notification will be issued on January 31. The date for filing nomination is February 7.
Polling Facts
• The terms of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura assemblies will end on March 12, 15 and 25
• A total of 9,125 polling stations will be there in the three states, which is 634 more than in 2018
• Webcasting will be there in 73% of polling stations
• 376 polling stations will be managed by women
Encouragement to Youth
Youth were seen to be apathetic and uninterested in voting in the most recent elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Young recruits will be offered the chance to oversee booths during the next elections in the North Eastern States in February.
Election Commission requests for Permanent provisions
According to the Election Commission, funds are authorised to build permanent infrastructure, such as polling places with 100% accessibility to all essential amenities like electricity, drinking water, separate toilets for men and women, and ramps for the physically impaired.
These long-lasting constructions can be donated to schools for long-term use.
